One of the most popular solar installations on the island is the grid-connected net metering system. A solar array installed on your rooftop or in your garden will generate electricity fed through your house for all your electrical consumption requirements. Any excess electricity produced during the day is not used, gets stored in the primary grid for your later use. From this system, you can significantly benefit from reduced bills of up to 80-90%. You will also benefit from EU incentives when connecting a grid-connected (grid-tied) net metering system through a return of investment currently at 250 euro per kW installed. A typical home that would require a 4kW system installed would profit from a return of €1000 (roughly 20% of the total cost). Installation of Off-grid photovoltaic Solar system.

A stand-alone (or off-grid) photovoltaic system can provide electricity for a home or cabin without access to the primary grid. Using batteries, the electricity produced is stored so that the electricity produced is available throughout the night. A small photovoltaic system is also widely used on boats to charge up the batteries and power the lights, gauges, electrical appliances, and fridges. Another common application of a small stand-alone solar system is for swimming pools. Usually, batteries are not required, and the solar panels directly power the swimming pool’s pump.
