Our aim is to help you to understand more about biofuels, bioenergy and how to save money both in the short and in the long-term

What is the difference between grid-tied and off-grid solar?

A grid-tied photovoltaic system uses the primary electricity supply grid to store excess energy produced during sunlight hours of the day from your solar array. The electricity produced is initially supplied for domestic services. The excess is reserved via the grid and registered as a credit on your consumption in the later hours of the day.

An off-grid photovoltaic system uses batteries to store all the generated energy. Electricity is supplied on-demand from the batteries for the electrical demands of the household. In an off-grid system, the cost of batteries is a large part of your investment.

In summary, a grid-tied system has more significant economic benefit. Of course, autonomous systems employing batteries are convenient when a grid-connected option is unavailable because you need a cabin or agricultural installations solution.

How much money will I save using a Solar Solution?

A typical grid-connected photovoltaic system will cover the electricity consumption of a family house may save well over ₮1000 per year. The amount of savings will depend on the size of the system and the total annual usage of electricity in the house.

Before installing such a system, we advise the size of the solar array needed for your demands based on previous consumption and estimate your possible savings. A typical investment payback period of a grid-connected photovoltaic system is between 4 to 5 years. With many solar panel manufacturers offering a 20+ years warranty on the products, you are guaranteed many years of free electricity production after your investment has reached a return on investment.

Is it possible to extend my solar system in due course?

Off-grid photovoltaic systems can be extended by increasing the battery pack capacity, the power of the solar panels, and inverter capabilities. The designs need careful planning to size the system's equipment to the correct requirements.

In the case of a grid-connected solar system, it is also possible to extend the output. As it is a grid-tied system, an application to the EAC (Electricity Authority of Cyprus) is re-submitted, detailing the equipment improvements.

How can I heat my house using BioMass Pellet Burner?

Both convective air pellet stoves and pellet boilers for heating water are becoming very popular as they offer ease of use, economical fuel consumption and comfortable heat distribution to the whole house.
A convective free-standing pellet stove is widely used as an easy, convenient and cost-effective way of heating most of your house.

A pellet stove situated in the household's living room will distribute heat through convection and radiation into the living space, kitchen, and adjacent bedrooms.

A pellet stove is easily programmed to turn on or off automatically at suitable hours, and the temperature is set to the desired level. Refilling the furnace is very easy by emptying a bag of pellets into its fuel tank reservoir, located at the rear of the stove. With most pellet stoves having a capacity of over 15kg of pellets, you can extend refuelling intervals to several days.

Some pellet stoves have the option of channelling hot air to other rooms located far from the pellet stove. In this case, the pellet stove can heat the whole house with a direct hot air vent system.

This type of installation is usually reserved for new builds, so ducting is planned under the house where hot-air channelling can be easily constructed. In older or existing properties, a cavity makes this too an achievable solution.

Another way of heating your home with pellet fuel is to install a pellet stove or pellet boiler as part of a central heating system such as radiators or underfloor heating. Just as a gas or oil boiler, a pellet boiler can be installed to heat the water to your radiators or underfloor heating, and you can benefit from the reduced fuel price of pellets compared to traditional fuels.

Do you install throughout Cyprus?

Yes, we install our products and offer our maintenance services islandwide.

I have a traditional open fireplace. How can I make it more efficient?

Traditional open fireplaces consume a lot of firewood and provide little heat to the room. Most of the heat is lost through the chimney.
One of our most popular and effective ways of turning your open fireplace into an efficient heating source is fitting an insert wood burning stove into your existing fireplace. With various insert fireplace sizes and finishing frames to choose from, you are guaranteed to turn your open fireplace into a modern, efficient and clean heating system.

When do I need to have my chimney swept?

Wood burning stoves/ fireplaces require an annual check and maintenance. Chimney sweeping of the flue pipes carried out during the annual maintenance is essential to ensure your stove's efficient and safe operation. We check for any worn door or chimney seals that need replacing during the maintenance. We stock a variety of service products such as fire-resistant seals and fireplace lining boards.

What is the best firewood to use?

The type of firewood used in your wood-burning stove/fireplace is of great importance to ensure efficient, safe and clean operation.
All wood will burn, but some will do so hotter, slower, and cleaner than others. Wet or unseasoned firewood will burn without providing the amount of heat that your stove can produce whilst also producing a lot of smoke. Softwoods such as pine do not have a very high calorific value and often have larger quantities of sap or resin that will clog your chimney very quickly. The best firewoods are seasoned hardwoods that will burn hot and relatively steadily, producing more heat and burning more completely.

We stock various hardwoods such as kiln-dried oak, ash, hornbeam and birch, and seasoned local woods such as citrus fruit trees, olive and eucalyptus.
